Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font says he feels for Ronald Koeman over the club’s failure to buy Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.
While candidates Font and Joan Laporta support Koeman’s wish to sign Garcia immediately, Barca’s steering committee are insisting the Spanish defender will only arrive when his deal expires in June.
Font told Mundo Deportivo: “Koeman’s words at this afternoon’s (Saturday) press conference show the depth of the lack of a sporting project the club has suffered for some time. One way to approach his thinking as much as possible would be to incorporate now, urgently, Eric Garcia to strengthen the backbone of the team.
“The coach and the technical secretariat are now asking for it now that the Copa enters the decisive phase, that the Champions League is approaching and that Madrid are losing ground in La Liga. Together, we must all contribute to having the best possible team to aspire to titles this year!”
