Wijnaldum asks Liverpool ‘for more time’ over new contract offer

Georginio Wijnaldum has asked Liverpool for more time to consider their new contract proposal.

The Dutchman, whose contract runs out next summer, is able to start talking to clubs from the beginning of the upcoming January transfer window, says the Guardian.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have failed to convince Wijnaldum to sign a new deal at Anfield yet, as the midfielder asked for more time to make a decision.

The Reds presented a new offer to the 30-year-old at the start of December but this week, the player asked for a few more days as the clock continues to tick over his future.

He did, however, ensure the club that he would inform them of his decision should he want to leave before he begins talking to other clubs.

Barcelona appear to be frontrunners to claim Wijnaldum’s signature should he decide to leave the Premier League champions. Inter Milan are also keen.
