Man City defender Garcia pushed about Barcelona return

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia is refusing to discuss the prospect of moving to Barcelona in January.

Even though Guardiola has said he hasn’t given up on convincing Garcia to stay, a move back to Barcelona seems likely this coming summer and a pre-contract agreement could be signed in January.

However, when asked about the potential transfer while on international duty with Spain, Garcia wasn’t drawn to answer.

“The only thing I can say is that I am a Manchester City player,” he said, as reported by El Mundo.

“I have a contract, and I am very grateful because they were the ones who bet on me.

“I’m grateful for the confidence of Pep (Guardiola), Txiki (Begiristan), everyone… and nothing, just that.”

Garcia has impressed with his ability on the ball for City, a quality that no doubt has attracted the attention of Barcelona, but he has also maintained that defending his first and most important job.

“My function is to defend, if you have to kick, you do it,” he added.

“If you have to give a kick, it is done. If you have to go out with the ball, it is done. If you have to clear, it’s done.

“It’s true that I like to go out with the ball played, also because in the clubs where I’ve been I’ve had to do it, but my first mission is to defend.”
