LIVE: Liverpool vs Arsenal

7′ Arsenal cannot expect to have much of the ball and so must use it well. Lacazette is frustrated as he believes he should have a free-kick 30 yards from goal after pinching possession from Alexander-Arnold.

5′ All 20 outfield players are in the Arsenal half, with Mikel Arteta’s men defending deep inside their own box. There is no way through for Liverpool yet, though, as they continue to probe.

3′ Mane is the first man booked for a rather ugly challenge. Chasing after his own poor touch, he pushes his arm out to hold off Tierney and catches the Arsenal man firmly in the face. The winger claims to have used only his shoulder, but this is a blatant yellow card.

2′ The visitors have control in the opening moments and then look for the run of Aubameyang in behind. He is offside and Liverpool can enjoy some possession for the first time.

1′ KICK-OFF: Arsenal get us up and running!

Arsenal have lost nine Premier League games by four or more goals. Five of those nine have come at Anfield in a fixture that usually delivers goals.

There is no full Liverpool debut for Thiago Alcantara, who instead misses out entirely with “a minor fitness issue”. Captain Jordan Henderson is also missing, but Gomez is back and Jota could make his Reds bow from the bench. Luiz, Tierney, Elneny and Maitland-Niles come into the Arsenal team from their previous league match.

Subs: Runar Alex Runarsson, Gabriel, Bukayo Saka, Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe, Eddie Nketiah, Sead Kolasinac.

Arsenal (3-4-3): Bernd Leno; Rob Holding, David Luiz, Kieran Tierney; Hector Bellerin, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles; Willian, Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Subs: Adrian, James Milner, Curtis Jones, Takumi Minamino, Diogo Jota, Divock Origi, Neco Williams.

Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Naby Keita, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane.

Let’s get the team news from Merseyside…

Both Liverpool – in fifth as things stand – and Arsenal – third – have two wins from two in the Premier League, but only one will be able to join early pace-setters Leicester City and Everton on nine points.

These two sides are becoming rather familiar! Arsenal won the Community Shield against Liverpool last month, while they will meet again at Anfield in the coming days in the EFL Cup. This top-flight encounter might be deemed the most important clash, however.
