Newell’s Old Boys vice-president D’Amico: Messi return NOT impossible

Newell’s Old Boys vice-president Cristian D’Amico insists bringing Leo Messi back to is no longer an impossible dream.

It’s broke in Spain over the last 24 hours that Messi has informed Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu he will not consider new contract talks. Instead, as it stands, Messi is prepared to play out the final year of his deal and depart next summer.

Aware of the speculation, D’Amico told TNT Sports: “Messi’s return? I do not know if it is impossible. This decision is up to him and his family. As leaders, we must have the best possible context to help him make a decision.

“When (Diego) Maradona came to Newell’s, nobody thought he was going to come. I hope it will be the same with Leo. Of course, don’t sell smoke, it’s a touchy subject. Which Newell’s supporter would not dream of being able to see the best current player in the club jersey?

“You have to be patient.”
