Chelsea face Real Madrid competition for Barcelona defender Xavier Mbuyamba

Chelsea face competition from Real Madrid to sign Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona.

The Dutchman has been heralded as the next Virgil van Dijk but is supposedly surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.

Sport says the centre-back will not be offered a new deal and will be allowed to leave for free this summer, despite having three years left on his contract.

Chelsea are one of several clubs who have been linked with a move for Mbuyamba, but the Blues are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

AZ Alkmaar, Juventus and Inter Milan have all been credited with interest while Real Madrid are also said to be monitoring the situation.

A swap deal with Juventus youngster Kaly Sene has already been ruled out, with the Senegal forward having scored 28 times in all competitions at youth level this term.
