Kempes warns Barcelona: Lautaro couldn’t lace Suarez boots

Argentine great Mario Kempes has questioned claims Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is ready to replace Luis Suarez at Barcelona.

The two clubs are locked in talks over a deal for the Argentina international amid a suggestion he’d arrive to replace veteran Suarez.

But Kempes told RAC1: “I do not know if Lautaro would be a good matador but if he is to be a good player for Barça, everyone will say that he is the replacement for Luisito Suarez, but do not presume Luisito Suarez is dead, the Uruguayan has strength, he has a terrific self-esteem, he’s one of those players who never lowers his arms and on the pitch is very important for the team.

“Lautaro can be an important deal, I will not deny it. He is a young boy, with impressive strength, a good game and a goal. All I will say he’ll be an alternate or a substitute but cannot tie the boots of Luis Suárez who still has a few years left.”
