Watch AFC Wimbledon relive Akinfenwa’s impact against Crawley Town

The Dons looked back at how the Anglo-Nigerian inspired them to a comeback victory against their hosts in a league game

AFC Wimbledon reminisced about how Adebayo Akinfenwa stirred the team to a comeback win at Crawley Town.

Despite being behind at half-time, the Dons secured a 2-1 away triumph at the People’s Pension Stadium.

After a cagey display from both teams in the early minutes of the League Two clash, Mark Yates’ men took the lead through Gwion Edwards.

Luke Rooney floated a cross inside Wimbledon’s goal area before the Welshman headed past a helpless James Shea.

However, the Dons woke from their slumber in the second half, with Akinfewa levelling matters with a header thanks to Andrew Barcham’s assist in the 51st minute.

Neal Ardley’s men secured maximum points with Barcham sealing the victory with 14 minutes left to play as they bounced back from their home loss to Cambridge United.

Five years have passed since the triumph, and the League One outfit relived the Anglo-Nigerian’s impact against the Reds.

After two seasons at Kingsmeadow, Akinfenwa signed for Wycombe Wanderers in 2016 where he remains to date.

Before football went into a hiatus following the Covid-19 outbreak, the 37-year-old boasts of 32 appearances with 10 goals to his credit for the Chairboys.

Wycombe, with 59 points from 34 games, are currently eighth on the table as they eye promotion to the Championship.
