The England striker has been linked with the Red Devils, but has been backed to fill an important void at their local rivals
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Harry Kane will be questioning his future at the club and said he could prove an ideal signing for Manchester City.
Kane admitted this week that his long-term future may lie away from Spurs should they fail to compete for silverware with Manchester United one of the clubs most strongly linked with a possible move.
As previously reported by Goal, the England striker is open to a move to Old Trafford but any deal between the two clubs could prove difficult to pull off.
While hopeful Kane remains at Tottenham, Redknapp concedes he may contemplate a move away soon, with United’s bitter rivals a potentially perfect match for him with main striker Sergio Aguero set to turn 32 in June.
“Listen, Harry is an ambitious boy. He’s a fantastic professional, a great lad, and he wants to play and he wants to win things,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
“They [Tottenham] need surgery in the summer, but are they going to be spending any money? Is anyone going to be spending money now in the next year or two and going for big transfers?
“He’ll be looking at that and thinking ‘hang on’.
“And what a player he would be for one of those top clubs. I don’t want to see him leave Tottenham and nor do Tottenham fans, but what a centre-forward he would be for Man City for instance with Aguero coming to the end.
“He’d be a great signing for anybody. He’s a great player and a great professional – hopefully he’ll stay at Tottenham but he won’t stay unless he sees them pushing to win things.”
While Spurs remain keen to hold on to their club captain and star player, the club have been urged by former player Jamie O’Hara to cash in on him while he’s at his most valuable.
“Tottenham need to rebuild; they’ve got to bring in four or five new players to really change that team and get them playing where they need to be,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.
“I can understand Harry’s frustration, and he’s getting to the point now where he’s a world-class footballer who is worth a lot of money, and if the trophies are not going to come in the next two or three seasons at Spurs, which is looking likely, do they get rid of him and cash in?
“If you’re going to sell Harry Kane, you’ve got to sell him at his peak – and he’s at his peak now in terms of his market value.”
