Wazito FC 4-1 Zoo FC: Hall’s charges register second-biggest win

The KPL newbies dispatched the Kericho-based side to earn another win since dispatching Chemelil Sugar 6-0 in November

Wazito FC’s dominance over Zoo FC continued with a 4-1 win in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) tie played at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Sunday.

Goals from Dennis Ng’ang’a, Augustine Otu, Joe Waithira and Paul Kiongera earned Wazito their second win in six league matches while Collins Neto scored the only goal for the visitors.

Zoo goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu pulled off a double save to deny the hosts two clear opportunities in the 8th minute. Misikhu denied Musa Masika in the first instance when he parried over the bar his long-range effort before he cleared the ball for safety from the resultant corner kick.

A dominant Wazito got the opener in the 22nd minute from a free-kick. Ng’ang’a took the set-piece and managed to plant the ball beyond Misikhu to break the deadlock.

Striker Neto equalized for Zoo just at the half-hour mark as he tapped home to surprise their hosts. But Wazito were not shocked by the equalizer as they fought and restored their lead two minutes later.

Kiongera scored his second goal for the club since joining in January when his shot evaded the Zoo goalkeeper and slid past the goal line. Otu would have made it 3-1 but his header from Masika’s delivery did not trouble the visiting goalkeeper.

The Liberian was not to be denied in the 45th minute after he connected to a Whyvonne Isuza’s pinpoint pass. His initial shot was stopped by Misikhu but a second attempt found the back of the net to give Wazito a good lead into the half-time break.

The Zoo goalkeeper, the busiest of the two, made another great save in the 63rd minute to deny Victor Ndinya scoring the fourth goal for a spirited Wazito side.

Coach Stewart Hall made a change that proved vital in the 74th minute when he introduced Waithira for Masika and the former did not last a minute before scoring another goal for the hosts.

Misikhu came off his line in an attempt to close in on Waithera but the forward volleyed the ball over the custodian and into an empty net for Wazito’s fourth goal. Waithera, consequently, was yellow-carded for his over celebration.

Zoo are yet to pick a win against Wazito as the previous three matches ended in two wins for the latter with a 3-3 draw which was recorded in September 2018 being another result.
