Leganes blow as Braithwaite replacement signing blocked

Leganes have been blocked from signing a replacement for Martin Braithwaite.

Marca says Leganes discovered on Thursday that they will not be able to sign a replacement for Braithwaite, who completed his 18 million euro move to Barcelona on the same day.

Barcelona were allowed to bring in a player to cover the loss of the injured Ousmane Dembele, with LaLiga giving the Blaugrana the green light as the Frenchman will be out for the next six months, but Leganes will now be unable to sign a player to replace their first-choice forward ahead of the final 14 matches in LaLiga Santander.

Los Pepineros made a request to both LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), but the RFEF have informed Leganes that they will not be allowed to sign a player outside of the transfer window.

The RFEF’s reasoning is that “you can’t change the rules during the season”.
