Arsenal missed out on Griezmann in 2017 over UCL qualification

Arsenal supposedly missed out on the signing of Antonie Griezmann in 2017, because they did not qualify for the Champions League.

The Gunners were in the market for a high profile forward that summer.

The Athletic claims the North London club could have signed Griezmann from Atletico Madrid if they had finished in the Premier League top four.

But they did not, as they finished a point behind Liverpool and in fifth place.

It meant they did not have a chance to sign the French star, who wanted to continue playing in Europe’s premier competition.

Griezmann finally left Atletico this summer, joining La Liga rivals Barcelona.
