Barcelona coach Valverde reluctant to lose Ansu Fati to U17 World Cup

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde is reluctant to lose Ansu Fati to Spain’s U17 World Cup campaign.

Valverde hopes that Fati will be called up by Spain’s U21s, rather the U17s, as playing at the U17 World Cup would mean that he is unavailable for some key fixtures in October and November.

“I would like the player to spend more time with us,” Valverde said.

“If he goes with [Spain’s] U21s, he would be unavailable during the international break, however if he goes with the U17s he would spend more time away from the team.

“But you have to wait to see what happens and what the [Spanish Football Federation] decides. We don’t have much to say. Everyone looks out for their own interests, logically.”
