Lionel Messi was forced off at halftime of Barcelona‘s 2-1 win against Villarreal.
The Argentine had to be substituted at half-time with discomfort in his left leg.
Messi was making his return to the starting line-up after the injury that had kept him out since the first day of his return for pre-season, having only made substitute appearances in the last two games against Borussia Dortmund and Granada.
During his time on the pitch, Messi was able to provide an assist for Antoine Griezmann – the Frenchman’s third goal of the season – but around the 30th minute, Messi noticed some discomfort on the left side of his left thigh.
Despite being treated by Barcelona‘s medical team on the side of the pitch, he did not appear for the second half as he was replaced by Ousmane Dembele.
