Western Stima hold Wazito FC to a second KPL draw

The KPL newcomers have failed to pick up maximum points in their first two matches of the season so far

Wazito FC have registered a second consecutive draw in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) after drawing 0-0 with Western Stima on Saturday in Kisumu.

Wazito were unable to break a resilient Stima machine and the result means both sides have two points after Stima also drew 2-2 against Kariobangi Sharks in their opener.

Ali Abondo got the chance to test Samuel Odhiambo in Western Stima’s goal in the sixth minute but the goalkeeper was able to dive to the right direction and parry the ball back into play under considerable pressure.

Odhiambo was called to duty once more in the seventh minute when Ghanaian forward Paul Aquah took a powerful low drive. The custodian managed to collect the rolling ball as Wazito’s attacks increased by the minute.

Western Stima’s Villa Oromchan hit the side netting with the hosts’ most open chance in the early period of the game. The Ugandan was put through on goal by Hassan Kikoyo who outwitted his marker Karim Nizihiyimana before sending the ball forward.

Stima’s Fidel Odinga was denied in the 34th minute by Amos Asembeka who was able to stretch his leg and clear the ball from Odinga’s feet. Wazito struggled to contain Stima’s movement in the last quarter of the first half.

Odhiambo managed to pull another save from Wazito in the 40th minute when Amos Asembeka tried to test him with a clever long-range shot.

Wazito’s goalkeeper Omondi made two vital saves to deny Kelvin Wesonga and Oromchan in the 84th minute. Wesonga found himself one-on-one with Omondi and his shot towards the right-hand corner was punched back into play.

Oramchan then collected the ball and tried to find the left top corner but Omondi was vigilant and quick enough to parry the ball away.

Wazito will host AFC Leopards in their next match while Western Stima visit Posta Rangers on September 21.
