The unbeaten run is over. Tata Martino’s Mexico team suffered its first defeat under the coach in September, falling to Argentina, 4-0.
Now it’s time to turn the attention to the Concacaf Nations League. Martino plans to use the new tournament to get a look at players who he hasn’t seen much of since arriving in January.
Many of those players will be young and based in Liga MX, but the Argentine also left the door open to bringing in Europe-based players who didn’t play in the Gold Cup for the regional competition. That’s a list that could include big-name stars like Hirving Lozano, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Jesus “Tecatito” Corona.
Whoever is involved, Mexico will look to finish the year strong and bounce back from the first-ever setback suffered in the Martino era. It should be an exciting close to the year.
