The Senegal fullback played for Barcelona B in the 2018/19 season.
Ernesto Valverde often observed him in senior team training sessions, and it has come as little surprise that the African defender had now been officially promoted.
He will wear the number 16, which has previously been held by both Xavi Hernandez and Sergio Busquets.
Wague is promoted just as Valverde made clear during the pre-season tour to Japan that Sergi Roberto was being moved into his favoured midfield role for th new season.
