LIVE: Australia v Brazil

45′ + 3′ HALF-TIME: AUSTRALIA 1-2 BRAZIL.

C. Logarzo

Assist

Australia

45′ + 1′ Assist Chloe Logarzo

C. Foord

Goal

Australia

45′ + 1′ FOORD PULLS ONE BACK FOR AUSTRALIA! Yallop’s cross into the box is nodded down by Logarzo and Foord is waiting in the middle to tap the ball into the back of an empty net as Barbara had drifted towards the cross. 2-1!

45′ GOOD CHANCE FOR GIELNIK! Carpenter puts in a really good cross from the right wing and picks out Gielnik who is unmarked in the box. She takes a touch before firing her shot straight at Barbara.

44′ Brazil have now scored 26 unanswered goals in the group stages at Women’s World Cups, last conceding against France during the 2003 edition.

42′ Brazil are still trying to build out from the back, but their passing is still letting them down often. Kathellen is the latest player to give the ball away on the edge of her own box and invite the pressure from Australia.

40′ Australia look a little rattled after conceding the second goal and their passing isn’t as quick as it was before to get them into the final third.

Debinha

Assist

Brazil

38′ Debinha was left in a lot of space down the left wing and chipped her cross into the box on the turn to pick out Cristiane’s run.

Cristiane

Goal

Brazil

38′ CRISTIANE DOUBLES THE LEAD! The cross into the box from Debinha was brilliant and Cristiane just got ahead of her defender in the middle of the box to reach the ball first and head it into the ground and over the line. 2-0 Brazil!

37′ GOOD CHANCE FOR KERR! Foord pulls away from Santos on the left wing to put a cross into the box. Kerr gets ahead of her defender at the near post and directs her shot on target, but Barbara is across her line quickly to make the save.

35′ Brazil don’t clear their lines from a corner and Kellond-Knight is up from the back to pick up the loose ball. She puts a good cross back into the middle of the box, but Barbara comes off her line to collect it.

33′ Australia have been struggling to get on the ball as often as they were before Brazil scored, but they are still causing their opponents a lot of problems with their high press.

31′ Marta is the first player to score in five different editions of the Women’s World Cup, netting in 2019, 2015, 2011, 2007 and 2003.

29′ Brazil look a lot brighter since their goal and are passing the ball more comfortably before. Marta drifts out to the left wing and puts a good, low cross into the box, but Catley gets across to clear it for Australia.

Marta

Penalty Goal

Brazil

27′ MARTA SCORES FROM THE SPOT! She confidently steps up to take the penalty and sends the goalkeeper the wrong way as she curls her shot into the bottom corner. 1-0 Brazil!

26′ PENALTY TO BRAZIL! Santos goes to ground under pressure from Kellond-Knight in the box. Australia are not happy with the decision as they feel that there was a handball by Santos but the referee very quickly points to the spot. VAR are having a look at this incident as well and they’ve given the penalty.

24′ Brazil have been playing themselves into trouble quite often. Their passing in their own half has been sloppy and they’ve been gifting possession back to Australia and inviting the pressure from them.

22′ No penalty! When Yallop won the ball back for her side in the build-up to the penalty incident, it bounced up and hit her on the arm so Brazil are awarded a free-kick instead.

20′ Australia are asking for a penalty after Yallop goes to ground in the box by a challenge with Thaisa. The referee points for a goal kick but VAR are having a look at the incident.

18′ Cristiane is not happy and she’s making her feelings clear to the referee. She feels like she was caught by Van Egmond’s elbow in an earlier challenge and she wants to know why she didn’t get a free-kick for it.

16′ Andressa cuts inside from the right wing and fires a good cross towards the far post. Debinha is running to get on the end of it but she just can’t make contact with it before it bounces out of play.

Formiga

Yellow Card

Brazil

14′ Formiga receives the first yellow card of the game after a clumsy challenge on Van Egmond. That’s her second booking of the tournament which means she will miss Brazil’s next match.

12′ Santos wins the ball back from Logarzo and quickly tries to slot it through to Cristiane in the middle. The forward had just drifted offside though so she couldn’t make the run to get on the end of it.

10′ At the minute, Australia are trying to make their way forward down the right wing through Gielnik and Carpenter. They’re putting some good crosses into the box but haven’t been able to pick out a team-mate in the middle just yet.

8′ Kellond-Knight has got forward from left-back and she picks up the ball on the edge of the box. She takes a touch before trying to curl her effort towards the top corner, but her effort flies over the crossbar.

6′ Australia have made a bright start to the game and are closing down Brazil high up the field which is causing their opponents some problems at the minute.

4′ Brazil’s passing has been quite sloppy in the opening minutes of the game with a lot of the players knocking the ball straight out of play needlessly.

2′ Brazil work the ball quickly upfield down the left wing and Tamires gets away from Kellond-Knight to get her cross into the box. She squares it to the near post, but it’s Williams is able to collect it under no pressure.

1′ Kerr gets the game underway for Australia!

The teams are out on the field now, and kick off is just moments away!

Brazil have now won each of their last 10 group stage games at the World Cup, keeping a clean sheet in each one. They have found the back of the net 24 times across those 10 games.

Vadao makes only one change to the side that beat Jamaica last time out as star player, and top-scorer for Brazil at all Women’s World Cups, Marta is available once again after sitting out the last game with an injury. She replaces Beatriz, who starts on the bench.

Ante Milicic makes just two changes to the side that lost to Italy as he brings Kellond-Knight and Gielnik into the starting line-up. Raso drops down to the bench, while Clare Polkinghorne is unavailable today due to a muscle injury. Mary Fowler is not included in the squad as she is still suffering from a hamstring injury.

BRAZIL SUBS: Poliana, Luana, Aline, Andressinha, Beatriz, Ludmila, Tayla, Camila, Geyse, Raquel, Daiane, Leticia.

BRAZIL STARTING XI (4-4-1-1): Barbara; Leticia Santos, Kathellen, Monica, Tamires; Debinha, Formiga, Thaisa, Andresaa Alves; Marta; Cristiane.

This is a game that Australia can’t afford to lose if they want to be in with the chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds after they suffered a last-minute defeat to Italy in their opening match of the tournament. They face tough opponents in Brazil though, who cruised to a 3-0 victory over Jamaica in their first game and put themselves in a good position to reach the next round of the World Cup.
