Enrique delighted with Man Utd keeper De Gea after surprise training sacrifice

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been in training for over a fortnight in preparation for Spain’s Euro qualifiers.

AS says De Gea cut short his summer break to train on his own at Spain’s football centre.

De Gea sought permission from the Federation to be allowed to use the training pitches and also the gym at the Ciudad del Fútbol. The Federation also assigned a goalkeeper coach and fitness trainer to work with De Gea while he worked at the centre.

Former Atletico Madrid keeper De Gea’s commitment has pleased Spain coach Luis Enrique – and also impressed his La Roja teammates.

Indeed, De Gea has inherited former Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta‘s nickname ‘Pocaplaya’, given his pale complexion after foregoing the beach for the pitches of the Ciudad del Fútbol.
