Reds lose skipper as Sydney FC confirm departures

Adelaide United captain Isaias has confirmed his departure from the club to pursue an opportunity overseas.

The four-time Reds Player of the Year recently became an Australian citizen and admits the decision to leave the A-League wasn’t an easy one with reports he’s now set for a move to Qatar

“This was a very difficult decision for me to make, but one that I have made for the benefit of my family,” Isaias said.

“Even though the club expressed its desire to keep me in Adelaide, they have been very understanding and I am very thankful to them for this.

“Coming to Adelaide was an amazing opportunity for me and I will always be grateful for the wonderful things that have happened to me while I’ve been here.

“I will always be an Adelaide United fan and will always have a special place in my heart for this club.”

Sydney FC meanwhile have confirmed that Jop van der Linden, Alex Cisak and Mitch Austin have all left the club after their recent A-League grand final win.

The Sky Blues loanees this season in the form of Siem de Jong, Reza Ghoochannejhad, Anthony Caceres and Danny De Silva have all returned to their parent clubs, though Steve Corica’s side are exploring options to seal the return of both Caceres and De Silva.

Talks are also ongoing with off-contract trio Josh Brillante, Jacob Tratt and Cameron Devlin.

Though left with just 13 contracted players, Corica is happy with the player’s he’s kept and is looking forward to who he can recruit over the coming months.

“We’ve got a very strong core of players already locked in for next season and I am confident of more success,” Corica said.

“We have retained a large proportion of our Championship winning team and I expect to recruit a number of exciting new players to add to that core.

“We have a few weeks to digest this season and we will take our time with recruitment, but I am excited by what is ahead.”
