Barcelona hero Rivaldo: Agents tried to transfer me to Man Utd

Barcelona hero Rivaldo has revealed he was offered the chance to sign for Manchester United during his career.

Rivaldo, 47, won the Ballon d’Or in 1999 ahead of second-placed David Beckham in the season that Sir Alex Ferguson led United to an unprecedented treble.

But Rivaldo says he was too content at the Camp Nou for a move to Old Trafford to appeal to him.

“When I was playing for Barcelona, I had some agents trying to transfer me to Manchester United,” he told Betfair.

“But I was so happy with the city and the club at Barcelona that I didn’t pay much attention to that possibility.

“It wasn’t out of disrespect to United, I just didn’t want to move at that time. I’m not sure if there was any proposal. There were just discussions with agents and rumours, nothing more than that.”
