Los Angeles FC are favourites to win the MLS Cup after moving five points clear at the top of the Western Conference.
Carlos Vela’s late penalty gave them a point at Dallas on Sunday and extended their lead over Seattle Sounders, who could only draw 0-0 at Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union.
888Sport make LAFC 5/2 (3.50) to win the MLS Cup in just their second campaign. It is worth noting that a play-off system is in place, with 14 of the 24 teams advancing into the post-season.
Being top of MLS at the end of the regular season, and winning the Supporters’ Shield, does not necessarily guarantee play-off success, though. Indeed, just seven Supporters’ Shield winners have gone onto lift the coveted MLS Cup.

The Rapids had lost nine of their 11 games prior to Sunday’s game but Andre Shinyashiki’s late goal gave them a victory that was trading at around 6/1 (7.0) pre-match. Colorado are 750/1 (751.0) to win the MLS Cup.
Reigning champions Atlanta United can be backed at 9/1 (10.0) to win the MLS Cup again. The Five Stripes lost 1-0 at New York Red Bulls on Sunday, despite the hosts playing with 10 men for nearly an hour.
Also available at 9/1 (10.0) are Wayne Rooney’s D.C. United, who sit second in the East on goal difference, whilst leaders Philadelphia are a 14/1 (15.0) shot with 888Sport after winning four of their last six.
New York City FC have played just 11 games so far, the joint-fewest in the league, but are available at 14/1 (15.0) along with Seattle Sounders, who sit five points behind LAFC in the West.
Also in the West, history was made on Saturday night as Chris Wondolowski scored all four goals in San Jose Earthquakes‘ 4-1 win over Chicago Fire, meaning he overtakes Landon Donovan as MLS’ all-time leading scorer with 148 strikes.
