New Zealand striker earns unwanted Premier League record

Burnley‘s New Zealand striker Chris Wood has earned the dishonour of being caught offside more than any other player during the recent Premier League season.

The 27-year-old was flagged offside 53 times in his 38 appearances, which was 15 more than second-placed Glenn Murray (38).

Leicester City centre-forward Jamie Vardy (37) came in third, while Watford‘s Gerard Deulofeu and Fulham‘s Aleksandar Mitrovic (both 34) rounded out the top-four.

Wood scored 10 Premier League goals for the Clarets – for the second consecutive season – but he was pipped to club top scorer by Ashley Barnes with his 12 strikes.

His best performances involved the braces scored in victories against Brighton and Cardiff, while he also scored in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Wood is contracted at Burnley until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
