Manchester United’s Perth friendlies to be shown on Channel 7

Channel 7 have secured the exclusive rights to show Manchester United‘s upcoming friendly matches against Perth Glory and Leeds United.

The Red Devils will take on Tony Popovic’s side at Optus Stadium on July 13 before facing off against Leeds four days later at the same venue.

Channel 7 will broadcast the first match on 7Two with the the second fixture to be shown on 7Mate.

“We are extremely excited to showcase these two huge games to an Australia-wide audience,” Seven West Media WA chief executive Maryna Fewster said.

“Optus Stadium has secured some massive sporting events in 2019 and we are delighted that we can broadcast these two games to our audience.

“Channel 7 is the premier network in Australia when it comes to sport broadcasting and these two blockbuster games at Optus Stadium demonstrate Channel 7’s commitment to sport.”

The decision to show the friendlies on Channel 7 could be an indication that the network is eager to expand its sports coverage to include the round ball game.

Channel 10 current broadcast one A-League game each week on free-to-air with Football Federation Australia looking to increase that coverage and openly speaking to other networks

Foxtel boast the full rights to the A-League, while Optus Sport have the rights to the English Premier League in Australia and it’s unclear whether either wanted to broadcast these upcoming friendly fixtures.
