Arsenal are targeting a summer move for Ligue 1 star Gelson Martins, according to reports.

The forward is currently on loan at Monaco from Atletico Madrid and has caught the eye of Arsenal after making an excellent start to his time in France.

Martins has three goals and three assists in his first eight appearances, and seems to have found his form at Monaco after a difficult spell in Madrid.

Portuguese outlet A Bola claim Arsenal are monitoring Martins again after failing in a bid to sign the 23-year-old on loan in January.

Martins was one of several attackers Arsenal considered in January before sealing a deal with Barcelona for Denis Suarez.

Arsenal fans were excited by the arrival of Suarez, but Unai Emery is yet to hand the Spaniard his first start.

The Gunners though will have to wait to see how Martins’ dispute with his former club Sporting Lisbon is resolved.

Sporting Lisbon are reportedly still seeking compensation from Atletico after Martins quit the club last summer in the wake of attacks on players last June.

Atletico offered Sporting Lisbon £13million in compensation for Martins, but the Portuguese club claim the Portugal international had a £86m release clause.

Arsenal are not expected to spend big in the summer as Emery could receive a transfer kitty as small as £40m.
