Hamsik set to leave Napoli for Chinese Super League’s Dalian Yifang

Napoli had plenty of opportunities to find the net but could not capitalize, as Fiorentina held on for a point at Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Fabio Quagliarella’s 11-match goal scoring run ended as Napoli controlled proceedings in a comfortable 3-0 win.

Arkadiusz Milik and Lorenzo Insigne scored less than two minutes apart to put Napoli out to an early 2-0 lead against Sampdoria.

An agreement for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik to join Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang has been found, owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has announced.

Hamsik has been at San Paolo since joining from Brescia in 2007 and is the club’s record goal scorer and appearance maker.

“An agreement with Dalian has been reached,” De Laurentiis wrote. “I wish Marek happiness in China.

“The doors of Napoli will always be open to him.”

Hamsik has scored 121 goals in 520 matches and won the Coppa Italia twice at Napoli in 2012 and 2014. Last season, he helped the club to 91 points in the league — a record for a Serie A side who failed to land the title.

In Decemeber 2018, he overtook Diego Maradona’s previous record of 115 goals before surpassing Giuseppe Bruscolotti’s 511 appearances in November 2018.

“First of all, I want to apologise for not being with you Azzurri fans,” Hamsik wrote on Instagram. “I wanted, hoped and dreamed of saying goodbye with one big lap of the pitch, feeling the embrace of your applause.

“You have always supported me and loved me unconditionally in the good and difficult moments: for this, I will always be grateful. ‘Napoli’ — I have it tattooed on my skin. Just like it was with that first Coppa Italia victory after 25 years.

“Impossible to forget the moment I broke Bruscolotti’s appearance record or when I broke the record for goals scored in a Napoli shirt held by football GOD Diego Armando Maradona.

“This makes me extremely proud. My three children were born in Naples and they are, in effect, Neapolitan. I want to thank everybody: the president, who gave me the chance to stay here for 12 years and who accepted my desire to try a new experience.

“All the managers who have managed me, to whom I owe my growth as a footballer and as a man. All of the medical, technical staff and the entire club: my friends who I will miss, but know I will never leave because they are my family.

“As soon as it’s possible, I hope you will allow me one last lap of the San Paolo pitch to dedicate and receive the goodbye we deserve.

“I love you and will love this city forever. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART to everyone and the best of luck to all my teammates for the rest of the season: I hope you win the Europa League!”
