Fellaini reveals he snubbed PSG last summer to stay at Man Utd before China move in January

MANCHESTER UNITED could have been facing their former player Marouane Fellaini in the Champions League this week – if a proposed move to PSG had gone through last summer.

That’s according to the Belgian midfielder, who revealed he could have signed for the Ligue 1 giants in an interview for French TV.

Fellaini was persuaded to stay and sign a new contract at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho, only to move to Chinese club Shandong Luneng Taishan in January for an undisclosed fee after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer froze him out.

He told French broadcaster Telefoot this week that the move to paris could have happened – and that he would have welcomed it.

In a quiz-style interview where he could only answer questions with a yes or no, the 31-year-old was asked ‘could you have signed for PSG last summer?’, and answered: “Yes.”

When asked ‘would you have liked to play for PSG?’, he also responded in the affirmative.

To the question, ‘was it Thomas Tuchel who did not wanty ou to come?’, Fellaini answered: “No.”

Mourinho was thought to be instrumental in the Belgian’s decision to remain at United after both the French side and AC Milan showed interest in buying him.

But after the Portuguese was sacked in December, Fellaini fell out of favour under Solskjaer and was given just three minutes of Premier League game time under the interim boss.

Speaking about his departure from United, the player said: “I think it was the right time to leave.

“It’s been ten and a half years since I came to England. I’ve had some great seasons. I wanted a new challenge and a new adventure and the time had come.”

Fellaini also told interviewers that he backed his old club to come out on top of their Champions League round of 16 tie with PSG.

He said: “With the confidence they have at the moment, and how they play, I think United are favourites.

“PSG have great players but they have two or three players injured. I think Manchester United have the advantage.”
