Chelsea’s Batshuayi faces choice between West Ham and Real Betis loans – sources

Steve Nicol and Raphael Honigstein agree Gonzalo Higuain will help Chelsea score goals, but they also think it increases the club’s pressure to perform.

Michy Batshuayi faces a choice between joining West Ham or Real Betis on loan, with Everton unlikely to match Chelsea’s £35 million asking price, sources have told ESPN FC.

Batshuayi has started just four La Liga games on loan at Valencia this season, scoring only twice in 21 appearances in all competitions.

Everton had been seen as the likeliest club to provide Chelsea with their preferred option of a permanent move for the Belgium striker.

However, the Merseyside club appear unwilling to match the £35m valuation and sources have told ESPN FC they do not expect to make any deadline day signings.

That leaves West Ham and Betis prepared to offer Batshuayi a chance, with sources having told ESPN FC that Valencia want the player’s situation to be resolved by Thursday’s 11 p.m. deadline.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri had no interest in recalling Batshuayi even before the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus last week, saying he needed a striker with “different characteristics” for his system.
