Arsenal transfer news: Expert reveals problem with James Rodriguez and Chris Nkunku bids

That’s the view of Duncan Castles, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, who has explained that Bayern Munich are trying to put a stop to The Gunners’ interest in James Rodriguez.

The Colombia midfielder is in the final six months of a two-year loan at the Bundesliga giants but they are unwilling to cut that short to allow a move.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has admitted the Gunners are only dealing in loans this window but they’ve also made a move to borrow Paris St-Germain midfielder Christopher Nkunku.

Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast: “I’m not sure if they’re going to splash the cash.

“I think that’s the essential problem here. As we stated earlier in the transfer window, they’ve been looking for a central midfielder and they’ve been looking for a wide player.

“They’re trying to do that at present but they’re trying to do it, essentially, on the cheap.

“They’re trying to get high-quality players but do them on loan deals with options to buy.

“So, they have tried previously in this window to get James Rodriguez out of his loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid and they’ve been blocked in that, I’m told, by Bayern who are refusing to let the player go on loan.

“They’ve made an approach to Paris St-Germain for their young central midfielder Christopher Nkunku.

“Again, there are reservations on Paris St-Germain’s part about letting him go on loan and what the fee would be if they’re going to let the player go, they want to sell at a good price so they can reinvest the money elsewhere.”

Arsenal are also scrabbling around for a centre back and right back following a number of injuries to Emery’s first-choice options.
