UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin meets with Alibaba’s Executive Chairman Jack Ma

The UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin met yesterday with the Founder and Executive Chairman of Alibaba, Jack Ma, Vice Chairman Joe Tsai and colleagues at UEFA headquarters in Nyon. The meeting follows the successful launch of the partnership between UEFA and Alipay – Alibaba’s digital payment platform – for national team competitions, launched in Shanghai last year.

Aleksander Čeferin said, “I am delighted that Jack, Joe and thier colleagues made time to visit UEFA to discuss deepening UEFA’s relationship with Alibaba. The contribution that our sponsors make to the success of our competitions is vital. The interest in the partnership with Alipay was generated right across the world. We are all looking forward to the impact they will have in the European Qualifiers which start in March and, of course, at the inaugrual UEFA Nations League finals in Portugal in June.

“Ours is a partnership that has great potential. UEFA runs the most compelling sports competitions in the world and the opportunity to explore new ways of bringing that passion to fans around the world with an organisation as innovative and respected as Alibaba is exciting.

“I look forward to many more productive discussions as we develop our partnership going forward.”
