AC Milan produced an inspired second-half showing to move up into fourth place in Serie A with a convincing 2-0 win over Genoa without the services of star striker Gonzalo Higuain.

All eyes were on Mlian’s attacking players and Fabio Borini and Suso stepped up thanks to their strikes in the final quarter of the match, making it back-to-back league wins for the first time since the start of November.

After a goalless first-half without Higuain or Genoa hitman Krzysztof Piatek, the improved second-half showing from Milan put an end to their three-match winless run on the road in Serie A takes them back into the top four.

Higuian is reportedly closing in on a move to Chelsea, while Piatek, who was suspended for the encounter is believed to be in talks over a sensational switch to the Italian giants.

Already without Alessio Romagnoli and Mattia Caldara at the back, manager Genarro Gattuso was dealt an early blow when Cristian Zapata went off injured and was replaced by Andrea Conti in the 14th minute.

However, Borini got on the end of Conti’s cutback and converted from eight yards after 72 minutes while the Suso wrapped up the points in the points seven minutes from time by latching onto Cutrone’s through-ball and finishing off the inside of the post.

Milan welcome second-place Napoli to San Siro next Saturday, while Genoa has a full week to prepare for their trip to strugglers Empoli.
