Report: DC United, Vancouver eyeing Sheffield Wednesday’s Gary Hooper

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Two MLS sides are eyeing a talented but injury-plagued striker from the English Championship, according to a new report from Sky Sports.

The transfer-window item claims that Sheffield Wednesday’s Gary Hooper is on the radar of D.C. United and the Vancouver Whitecaps as he looks to reignite his career following more than a year on the sidelines due to injury woes.

Hooper, who turns 31 this month, has shown himself to be an efficient finisher over more than a decade of play in England’s top three divisions as well as a particularly prolific three-year stint in the Scottish Premier League with Glasgow giants Celtic.

He’s bagged nearly 200 goals in more than 400 overall appearances since 2006, and has commanded millions of dollars in transfer fees involving some of his biggest club destinations, most notably to Norwich City ahead of their 2013/14 campaign in the Premiership.

He scored 11 goals in 25 games across all competitions for Wednesday last season, but hasn’t played in a competitive match for the Owls since December 2017, due to a nagging groin problem that was most recently operated on in November.
