Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino plays down the ‘rumours’ suggesting he’s in the running to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur blocked questions about the managerial vacancy at Manchester United at Mauricio Pochettino’s news conference on Thursday.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Pochettino is United’s No. 1 choice to take charge at Old Trafford in the summer, following the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Pochettino addressed the subject at his previous news conference on Tuesday and, ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Everton, Tottenham’s press officer said that the speculation would not be allowed to dominate the agenda again.

He stood his ground in an exchange with a reporter that lasted almost two minutes, and asked for the cameras to be turned off as the issue was resolved.

“You’re going to be the star of the press conference,” Pochettino joked to his press officer.

Pochettino signed a new deal at Tottenham until 2023 in May, and despite not signing a player in the summer, said on Tuesday that Spurs are unlikely to bring in anyone in the January window either.

While Manchester United are interested in hiring Pochettino in the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take over as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

The former United striker will take charge of his first training session on Thursday before addressing the media for the first time as caretaker boss on Friday.
