Rawls, DeLeon, Toia selected during Stage 1 of MLS Re-Entry Draft

NEW YORK (Friday, Dec. 14, 2018) – Three players were selected during Stage 1 of the 2018 MLS Re-Entry Draft on Friday. The top pick came from the Colorado Rapids, who chose former New York City FC goalkeeper Andre Rawls. Rawls is a former 2015 MLS SuperDraft selection, having spent the past three seasons with NYCFC.

Toronto FC chose Nick DeLeon, who had spent the past seven seasons at D.C. United. DeLeon tallied 13 goals and 16 assists in 180 regular-season games with D.C.

Real Salt Lake selected 26-year-old defender Donny Toia, who originally was a member of RSL in 2011. Toia most recently spent the past two MLS seasons with Orlando City SC.

Players not selected Friday are eligible for Stage 2 of the draft, which takes place at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, Dec. 20. Clubs have until 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 19, to sign their own Re-Entry eligible players.

A player may choose to opt out of the Re-Entry Process prior to Stage 2 of the draft. In such instances, the Right of First Refusal for the player will remain with his previous club. Players who remain unselected after Stage 2 will be available to any MLS club on a first-come, first-served basis.
