Vancouver Whitecaps FC trade for Maxime Crepeau and Victor “PC” Giro

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade

The Vancouver Whitecaps have been keeping busy this offseason, and continued to leverage the half-day trade window on Sunday by acquiring goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau and defender Victor “PC” Giro.

New ‘Caps head coach Marc Dos Santos’ two latest players come from Montreal and Orlando, respectively. For Crepeau, Vancouver exchanged $50,000 of Targeted Allocation Money and their third round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. Orlando received the Whitecaps’ third-round pick in the 2019 SuperDraft for PC.

Crépeau, 24, spent last season on loan for USL side Ottawa Fury FC, where he kept a league-record 15 clean sheets in 31 regular season appearances.

“For his age, for where he’s been, from a very young age what he’s had to face, we feel that the margin of progression for Maxime is so high,” said Dos Santos in a club statement. “We see him as a goalkeeper with an incredible level of potential.”

A left-sided player comfortable at outside back or winger, PC joins the ‘Caps after 18 appearances, one goal and one assist spread over two seasons with Orlando City.

“PC is good technically, he’s aggressive, he’s fast, and he has a lot of culture in his game,” Dos Santos said. “We believe in the qualities he has.”

This news comes shortly after the club announced the acquisition of goalkeeper Zac MacMath from the Colorado Rapids. Crepeau will likely battle it out with MacMath for the starting goalkeeper role.
