Leon Bailey will leave Leverkusen but not in January – director

Bayer Leverkusen have admitted they expect Leon Bailey to leave but following a meeting with the player’s agent he will not depart in the January transfer window.

Last week, a source close to the Leverkusen winger told ESPN FC that Bailey will be considering his options in January if his at situation at the Bundesliga club does not improve.

But on Wednesday, Leverkusen put an end to the transfer speculation for now following talks with Bailey’s agent and stepfather Craig Butler, who had travelled to Europe from Jamaica.

“The talks were good. We all know that Leon will move on one day,” Leverkusen sporting director Jonas Boldt told Bild. “But we made it clear that a winter transfer is out of the question. He also knows that he has our backing.”

Having impressed for Leverkusen in the first half of the 2017-18 season, Bailey has been struggling for form since February and has scored only one goal in a total of 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

In August he renewed his contract until 2023 amid links with several Premier League clubs including Chelsea.
