PSG boss Thomas Tuchel recently admitted it remains an area they need reinforcements in.

And according to Le10 Sport, he has identified Doucoure as the ideal signing while the midfielder is also thought to be interested in a return to his home land.

He said: “Recruiting a number 6? It was a priority during the last transfer window and it is still the case.

“It’s dangerous to always use Adrien [Rabiot] and Marco [Verratti] at this level.”

Rabiot was dropped to the bench for Le Classique against Marseille at the weekend after arriving late for a team meeting, with Julian Draxler partnering Verratti in midfield and securing the 2-0 win with a goal in injury time.

And with both stars linked with moves away from the Parc des Princes next year, Tuchel may approach the Premier League side over a possible transfer for Doucoure, 25.

But he will not be available on the cheap.

He signed a new five-year deal at Vicarage Road in the summer, contracting him to the club until 2023.

Watford 3-0 Huddersfield: Pereyra, Deulofeu and Success score as Hornets romp to victory

Watford paid Rennes £4.5million for their academy graduate in 2016, ending his nine-year spell at the French outfit and he has now made 67 Premier League appearances for the Hornets.

He enjoyed a stellar season last year, scoring seven of his eight goals in English football as his side finished 14th under Marco Silva and then Javi Gracia.

And his fine form has continued into this campaign as Watford won their opening four league games.

He played the full 90 minutes of the Hornets’ 3-0 win over Huddersfield at the weekend as his midfield partnership with Etienne Capoue continues to blossom.
