“Will he go to Southampton?” – PL scout speculates about Ligue 1 starlet’s future

There’s one player Marseille fans have been excited about for a very long time, and that’s their young centre-back Boubacar Kamara.

The 18-year-old, who has also been used as a defensive midfielder at times by Rudi Garcia, has started the last three games, and helped his team win two of them, the latest of which came against Caen.

After the game, Le Phocéen spoke to a Premier League scout who was present in Marseille to watch the young defender, and he gave an interesting breakdown of his strengths, feeling he was maybe ready for a move to the Premier League, like Southampton.

He said: “Kamara maybe still needs to learn a bit more to be the highest level. He needs to work on his concentration for 90 minutes, which is normal at his age, but a top club can’t afford that patience. Three years ago, Arsenal could have signed Virgil Van Dijk. He played at Celtic, but he wasn’t reliable.

“Southampton took him, he cost them a few goals, but he eventually went to Liverpool for a fortune. For now, Kamara isn’t at Liverpool levels, but while he waits, will he go to Southampton or stay at Marseille?”.

At this point, the only reason why the youngster would want to go to St Mary’s is likely financial reasons, as he probably wouldn’t start on a weekly basis like he currently is in the south of France.

Furthermore, the youngster is also competing in Europe with Marseille, which Southampton aren’t currently in a position to offer.

As for what happens in the future, who knows, but it seems Premier League scouts rate him highly, and after the early success of Issa Diop at West Ham, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kamara seriously linked with teams like the Saints in the very near future.
