The Champions League’s milestone goalscorers – UEFA Champions League – News

1: Daniel Amokachi (Club Brugge 1-0 CSKA Moskva)
25/11/1992, group stage

‘The Bull’ chased down a through ball and held off a defender before clipping the ball past the stranded goalkeeper on 17 minutes for the first UEFA Champions League goal. Striker Amokachi went on to play for Everton and Beşiktaş and is currently technical director at Hercules in Finland, where his twin sons Kalim and Nazim play.

1,000: Dmitri Khokhlov (PSV Eindhoven 2-2 Benfica)
09/12/1998, group stage

Then in his second season in the Netherlands after leaving CSKA Moskva, the Russian midfielder’s 41st-minute opener was UEFA Champions League goal number 1,000. Khokhlov moved on to Real Sociedad, ending his playing days in Moscow with Lokomotiv and Dinamo, the club he now coaches.

Goal 2,000 was a well-hit free-kick from midfielder Sánchez (who holds the Bolivian record for most #UCL appearances and goals – 13 and three respectively). He lifted Portuguese titles with Benfica and Boavista before coaching Bolivia from 2006–09. He is now in charge of Club Blooming.

3,000: David Trezeguet (Juventus 7-0 Olympiacos)
10/12/2003, group stage

A first-time finish on the break that put his team 3-0 up inside 25 minutes, Trezeguet’s strike was his second of the night. A 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2000 winner, the French ace is Juve’s fourth-highest scorer ever with 171 goals and still works as their global ambassador.

With Liverpool leading 3-0 from the first leg, Crouch’s 67th-minute tap-in completed a 4-0 aggregate triumph. The 2.01m-tall forward – who earned the terrace chant “He’s big, he’s red, his feet stick out the bed, Peter Crouch” – is still playing at 37 with Stoke City.

5,000: Luisão (Benfica 2-0 Hapoel Tel-Aviv)

A glorious first-time volley on the turn, the Brazilian’s 21st-minute effort broke the deadlock for the hosts. At Benfica since 2003, the centre-back’s goalscoring prowess remains formidable as the 37-year-old closes on Nené’s record of 575 competitive games for the Eagles.

6,000: Mario Götze (Dortmund 3-0 Shakhtar)
05/03/2013, round of 16 second leg

A deft finish from an inviting ball from the right, the 6,000th #UCL goal left Dortmund 2-0 up on the night as they marched towards a final against Bayern. Playmaker Götze soon departed for Munich but is now back at Dortmund, whom he had first joined aged eight.

7,000: Ángel Di María (Malmö 0-5 Paris)
25/11/2015, group stage

A low left-foot effort from just inside a crowded area made it 2-0 to Paris and brought up the 7,000 mark. The Argentina winger won championships with Benfica and Real Madrid before an ill-fated season at Manchester United. He has won Ligue 1 twice since transferring to Paris in 2015.

8,000: Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid 2-1 Club Brugge)
03/10/2018, group stage

Club Brugge scored the first UEFA Champions League goal but conceded the 8,000th, Griezmann claiming his second of the match to seal victory.
