Bordeaux held to goalless draw at Reims

Girondins de Bordeaux fell short of a third win in seven days as they drew 0-0 with Stade de Reims at the Stade Auguste-Delaune on Saturday.

Stade de Reims  0 – 0  Girondins de Bordeaux

THE MATCH

Bordeaux travelled to Champagne country boosted by wins away to EA Guingamp and at home to LOSC over the last week, although their line-up showed numerous changes here, with forwards Nicolas De Préville and Andreas Cornelius among the players brought into the starting XI.

An early François Kamano goal had done for Lille in midweek, taking the Guinean winger to seven goals already this season. However, he started this game on the bench, and this time Bordeaux lacked inspiration, not really troubling Edouard Mendy in the home goal at any point, with the Reims ‘keeper saving easily from Lukas Lerage early in the second half.

Reims were looking to get back the defensive solidity that they had displayed before losing 4-1 away to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. It was only really when Hassane Kamara, on as a substitute, saw his effort land on the roof of the net after a stunning burst down the left wing that they came to life.

That was once the game had moved into the final 20 minutes, and Reims could not find a way through as they played out a third goalless draw in their last four matches.

THE PLAYER: Andreas Cornelius

The big Danish striker returned to the Bordeaux starting line-up but was ineffective in attack, rather summing up the away side’s difficulties in front of goal. He will hope for better when he faces his old side FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Europa League in midweek.

THE STAT: 4

This was the fourth time in five games in which Reims have failed to score, and with just four goals to their name they have the weakest attack in Ligue 1 Conforama.
