Cast your eyes over Fantasy best buys – UEFA Champions League – News

UEFA.com looks over the numbers to see who offered the best value for money in last season’s Fantasy competition – and who might be worthy of investment this time round.

Top scorers in 2017/18 overall
Cristiano Ronaldo racked up a remarkable 90 points last season, but three of Liverpool’s much-vaunted attack occupied the next three spots on the rankings in terms of total points. Roberto Firmino was close behind Ronaldo on 88 points, with Mohamed Salah on 76 and Sadio Mané on 68. Roma forward Edin Džeko completed the top five having collected 66 points during his side’s run to the semi-finals.

Ronaldo might have scored the most points last season but two of the players who lost out to Ronaldo’s Real Madrid offered the best value for money over the course of the campaign. Liverpool’s Firmino picked up 88 points overall, working out at 9.56 points per million given his price last year. Reds team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold earned only 39 points, but such was his lowly valuation he netted 9.50 points per million of his price tag, while third on the list was another defender – Paris’ Layvin Kurzawa, whose 51 points worked out at 9.27 per million.

Kurzawa finished top of the pile in last season’s matchday one to six reckoning, with all 51 of his Fantasy points for the campaign coming in the group stage. Ronaldo was one behind on 50, with Kurzawa’s Paris colleague Neymar on 47. Liverpool pair Firmino (44 points) and Philippe Coutinho (42) – the latter left for Barcelona in January – made up the top five.

Three Paris players took the top three slots based on points per million of their price tag. Not surprisingly, Kurzawa was again in first position with 9.27 points per million, while goalkeeper Alphonse Areola placed a distant second on 7.11. Dani Alves was in joint third on 6.00 points per million, level with Alexander-Arnold, Manchester City defender John Stones and Manuel Akanji of Basel.

So where does that leave us as we venture into the world of predictions? Based on their 2017/18 scores and their 2018/19 Fantasy prices …

Best value for money in 2018/19 overall
On statistics alone, Kurzawa remains the standout option at the top of the value-for-money rankings with 9.29 points per million spent. However, the French full-back – yet to feature for Paris this season – has recently undergone back surgery and could miss the whole group stage. Looking elsewhere, Firmino is second to Kurzawa with a score of 9.05 while Alisson Becker – now a Liverpool team-mate of Firmino having been at Roma last term – is next on 8.91 points per million spent. Bayern defender Joshua Kimmich holds fourth spot with 8.67 while a player still with Roma, defender Aleksandar Kolarov, comes in at fifth on 8.55 points per million spent.

Again discounting the absent Kurzawa, Paris’ Areola (7.11) and Dani Alves (7.09) are the best two value-for-money options, with former Manchester United defender Daley Blind – now returned to Ajax – next on 6.40 points and Stones and Akanjii level on 6.00.
