Arsenal already eyeing January deal for €35m Ligue 1 star

The summer transfer window in France is closed, finally shutting on Friday for those in Europe, and according to reports, it’s good news for Lille.

According to reports, the Ligue 1 club had been fighting off interest for forward Nicolas Pepe all summer – including interest from Arsenal.

Bernd Leno, defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira joined the Gunners during the transfer window. But it appears Unai Emery had been chasing a sixth arrival.

Pepe was linked with a move away from Les Dogues, but Christophe Galtier’s side were successful in keeping him at the club. The winger last season’s form saw him draw attention from clubs across Europe and Arsenal’s interest is mentioned in the report.

It’s not just Arsenal with a mention, as L’Equipe claims Sevilla, Real Betis and Lyon were also interested in the player and his employer even received an offer as high as €35m for the player.

Arsenal may just go back in for Pepe when the January window arrives.
