Uefa president backs UK-wide bid for 2030 World Cup | Sport

Uefa’s president has said it is time for the World Cup to return to Britain in what is a major boost to hopes of a bid for the 2030 tournament.

Aleksander Ceferin, the head of European football and a Fifa vice-president, added that it would be “wise” for England to go for the World Cup in a joint bid with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Football Association is carrying out a year-long feasibility study into bidding for 2030, which would see it go up against a joint South American bid from Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, who are trying to use the centenary of the World Cup, which was first held in Uruguay, as their main selling point.
