Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro has aimed a dig at Luka Modric after the Real Madrid midfielder won the UEFA Player of the Year award.

Modric played a pivotal role in Madrid’s third consecutive Champions League victory last season and also captained Croatia to the World Cup final this summer.

The 32-year-old’s performances were rewarded on Thursday evening as he won the UEFA Player of the Year award ahead of Ronaldo and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Modric received 313 points in the voting to finish ahead of Ronaldo, who received 223 points. Salah finished third in the voting with 134 points.

But while Modric has been praised by his Madrid teammates after receiving the award, Ronaldo’s sister fired a shot at the Croatian.

In a post on Instagram, Katia Aveiro posted a comparison between Ronaldo and Modric’s record in the Champions League last season with the caption: ‘That’s it! Take your conclusions!’

Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, also branded the decision to give the award to Modric as ‘shameful’.

‘Football is played on the field and that’s where Cristiano won,’ Mendes told Record.

‘He scored 15 goals, carried Real Madrid on his back and conquered the Champions League again.

‘It’s ridiculous, shameful. The winner is not in doubt, as Ronaldo is the best in his position.’
