Norwich In Talks To Sign Ligue 1 Striker

Norwich City are in talks to sign Dijon striker, Julio Tavares reports HITC Sport.

Tavares has attracted the interest of several other Championship clubs, named as being Aston Villa, Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers. However, it is Norwich that are said to be leading the way according to HITC.

HITC sources report that City initiated contact with Ligue 1 side, Dijon over the weekend with a view to a loan deal with an option to buy the 29-year-old. A fee of £2.5m is mentioned.

So what do we know about Julio Tavares?

Well, he’s 6’2” tall and a Cape Verde International, who scored 12 goals in Ligue 1 last season as Dijon finished a creditable 8th place in the French top flight.

The lad has been at Dijon since 2012 and has scored 67 goals in all competitions to become the club’s all-time leading scorer. He seems to have started this season well too, with three goals in his opening two games of the season.

Aston Villa seem our closest challengers for Tavares’ signature, with HITC reckoning that a fee was agreed with the Villains late in the window but there wasn’t time to get a deal done, allowing City to step in.

I’m not entirely sure what Daniel Farke and Stuart Webber have in mind but getting this lad in would seem to suggest a loan move for Dennis Srbeny could be in the pipeline.
