West Ham’s Edimilson Fernandes makes season-long Fiorentina loan move

ESPN FC’s Paul Mariner calls Liverpool’s attacking prowess against West Ham “a joy to watch”, hailing the debut of newcomer Naby Keita.

West Ham midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has completed a season-long move to Fiorentina, the Premier League club said on Monday.

Edimilson’s move to the Serie A side was part of the deal in which Colombian midfielder Carlos Sanchez arrived in London last week, it has been reported.

Switzerland international Edimilson joined West Ham from Sion in 2016 but has struggled to make an impact, managing 48 appearances in all competitions amid injury problems and poor form.

Fiorentina reportedly paid an initial loan fee of around £900,000 for the 22-year-old, with the option to sign him permanently next season.

Competition for places at West Ham has increased this season, with new boss Manuel Pellegrini bringing in nine new faces for around £100 million.

West Ham, who began their Premier League season with a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday, host Bournemouth on Saturday.
