Report: Seattle Sounders to sign Bournemouth’s Brad Smith on loan

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

With Raul Ruidiaz recently signed as a Designated Player and fellow Peruvian international Paolo Hurtado reportedly close to signing, the Seattle Sounders may not be done adding to their roster as they attempt to build yet another second-half surge to the playoffs. The Sounders will reportedly sign Bournemouth fullback Brad Smith on loan, according to Chris Wise.

Smith, 24, has made five Premier League appearances for Bournemouth since making a $6 million transfer from Liverpool in 2016. The Australian international also made five league appearances for Liverpool before leaving Merseyside.

An attacking fullback with a sweet left foot, Smith has been capped 19 times for the Socceroos. Nouhou Tolo has handled the majority of the Sounders’ minutes at left back this season, starting 16 of the club’s 21 games.

Seattle has won three games on the bounce and is unbeaten in their last six, including a trip to Atlanta United and a visit from New York City FC. The Sounders now sit 10th in the Western Conference, though are just five points adrift of the playoff line with ample time to cover more ground.

The loan deal reportedly includes an option for Bournemouth to recall Smith in January should they require his services.
