Ligue 1 club Caen approach Chelsea over Matt Miazga loan

Ligue 1 side Caen has made an offer to take U.S. international and Chelsea defender Matt Miazga on loan a source has confirmed to ESPN FC.

Get French Football News and independent journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter were first to report Caen’s interest, adding that Miazga would head to France for a medical on Tuesday.

However, a source with knowledge of the situation cautioned that other clubs are also chasing Miazga and that “no final decision has been made” with regard to Caen’s offer. The source added that it’s likely there will be a final determination as to Miazga’s club future for 2018-19 “in the next 36 hours.”

Miazga, 23, has officially been a Chelsea player since being transferred from the New York Red Bulls in January of 2016, but he has spent the last two seasons on loan with Dutch side Vitesse. That two-season spell saw him make 72 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals. He also helped lead Vitesse to the 2017 KNVB Cup, the first major trophy in the club’s history.

At international level, Miazga has increased his profile during the current calendar year, having made seven appearances overall and scoring one goal.
