But throughout his entire time in the French capital there have been suggestions he has not settled well and was looking to make a move back to Spain.

Real have been linked with putting together a world record bid to sign the 26-year-old, and the European champions have never denied their interest.

That talk increased when Cristiano Ronaldo decided to quit the Bernabeu to make a £98m switch to Juventus earlier this month.

It left Real needing to target a marquee signing to satisfy supporters worried the side will be short on quality next season.

Neymar was one of three players suggested as the Ronaldo replacement, along with PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

But it appears Hazard has emerged as the preferred option of the European champions, as they attempt to put together a deal worth as much as £170m to get their man.

Mbappe’s displays in helping France win the world cup have also elevated him to the status as one of the best players in the world.
And it appears Neymar is no longer the number one choice for Real bosses – leaving him to stay in Paris at least for another year.

The forward spoke for the first time since Brazil’s World Cup exit as he attended a fashion show in Sao Paolo raising funds for his charity foundation.

He said: “I continue, I have a contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

“I went there for a challenge, for having new things and for the pursuit of objectives, and nothing changed in my head.”

Real are now expected to step up their interest in Hazard, who has admitted the time may be right to leave Chelsea for a new challenge.

The Premier League club are desperate for the Belgian to sign as new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, but with no Champions League football to offer this season they are aware they face a fight to keep hold of their star man.
