Juventus “have done something extraordinary for Italian football” by signing Cristiano Ronaldo, coach Massimiliano Allegri has said.
Ronaldo is due to undergo a medical and sign a four-year contract in Turin on Monday after Juve agreed a €100 million fee with Real Madrid.
“We’ve always had the objective of winning the Champions League, and certainly the signing of Ronaldo gives us even more belief that we can do it,” La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Allegri as saying.
“I’ve not spoken to him on the phone at all. I think there will be a press conference on Monday, so I’ll see him then.
“I know he’s very happy. He’s a great professional and gives more value to a squad who have already achieved great things. I think that the club and the president have done something extraordinary for Juve, but above all for Italian football.”
Allegri could have moved in the opposite direction earlier this summer, with Madrid sounding him out after Zinedine Zidane resigned.
“I just followed my instinct,” he said. “This has certainly not been an easy summer for me because my Mum died a month ago and I had to make different decisions. I spoke to Juventus and I am happy there.
“I’d like to thank once again Real’s president [Florentino Perez], but I had given my word to Juventus.”
